KHC Studio: Modernity and Its Discontents I

Kilachand Honors College, Boston University, fall 2016, fall 2017

This is the first in a two-course sequence required for all first-year students in the Honors College at Boston University. The Studio is a combination seminar and writing course that introduces students to college-level writing and research through an examination of ethical, aesthetic, and social themes in modernist texts. Both semesters include regular, mandatory one-on-one tutorials with each student. The first semester emphasizes the close reading of texts and the nuts and bolts of academic writing through weekly response essays and shorter formal papers. The syllabus and major assignments are the same for all Studio sections and were designed collaboratively by all Studio instructors.

Collaboratively designed materials:

Syllabus (fall 2016)    Reading Response Prompt   Nietzsche Dialogue Assignment

Additional materials created for use in my sections:

Paper Writing Handout     In-class Writing Workshop     Peer-critique Take-Home Assignment
